Emphasize Your Eyes With Complementary Colors

When choosing an eyeshadow for your eyes, you want to choose one that compliments your eye color. Picking a color that is the same shade as your eye color creates a boring, not so exciting face.

Pretty much -B A S I C. Selecting colors that complement your eye color not only emphasizes your eyes, but it also make your eyes appear bigger, bolder, and sexier!

Below I have listed the complementary color options that coincide with each eye color:

Complementary Colors For People With Blue Eyes

If you reference the color wheel, orange is the complimentary color for blue. If you break down the color orange, you get yellow and red (Since Red + Yellow = Orange). Because orange is the complementary color for blue and it contains both yellow and red … shades that contain any of these colors will intensify blue eyes.

The Milady student textbook suggests these eyeshadow colors for people with blue eyes : gold, warm orange-browns (peach copper), red- browns like mauves and plums, and neutrals like taupe or camel (Milady Standard, 820-821)

Complementary Colors For People With Green Eyes

On the color wheel, red is the complementary color for green. When it comes to the eyes, red tends to make the eyes look tired and bloodshot. You would think that since red compliments green that it would be ideal to use red eyeshadow to intensify the color of green eyes, but this is WRONG. Pure red shades / tones are not recommended when dealing with green eyes. Instead it is recommended to use colors with earthy brown-based reds, or even colors close to red on the color wheel. The Milady student textbook says colors such as red- orange, red- violet, and violet would work. Also coppers, rusts, pinks, plums, mauves, and purples ( Milady Standard, 820-821)

Complementary Colors For People With Brown Eyes

If you have brown eyes, consider yourself special! Because brown is a neutral color, it doesn’t have a particular color that compliments it. That is because every color goes well with it! Yes, brown is a neutral color and neutral colors can pair well with any color. However, if you are trying to make your eyes standout, it is recommended to use contrasting colors. These colors include but do not limit to greens, blues, grays, and silvers (Milady Standard, 820-821).

The next time you apply your favorite eye shadow, try to use a color that complements your eyes. I’m sure you will love the results!

Please leave any pictures and / or comments of your results if you decide to try !

Face Cleansing 101

We all wash our face, but do we do it correctly? I mean, of course we do! A dab of water here … Some face wash there … and some more water after that, and BAM! Done. Hell no! Do that if you want to.. clogged pores are a thing ya know? Yes. If not cleaned properly, your face can become covered in bumps and pimples due to clogged pores. Over time clogged pores can become infected by bacteria and cause acne outbreaks. This is why it is very important to take the time to properly cleanse your face. Below are the proper steps for cleansing your face: Step 1: Cleanse / Tone Cleansers are formulated to remove dirt and makeup from the face. There are two different types of cleansers. Cleansing milks are cleansers that are textured like lotions and are non foaming. They are designed for individuals with dry, skin. Foaming cleansers are cleansers that are designed for individuals who have acne prone / oily skin, and it foams when you begin to massage it into the face. -Wash face with face cleanser by adding a dime size amount of cleanser of your choice to fingertips. Wet face, and use small circular motions to massage cleanser into face. Do this twice. Cleanse once as a “surface cleanse” and another time as a “deep cleanse.” This ensures that all makeup and dirt is removed from your pores. DO NOT USE BODY SOAP. Body soap is not formulated for the face. Use a cleanser that is made specifically for the face. I recommend PCA Skin’s facial wash. It doesn’t leave my face dry and dull looking, and it also does an amazing job of removing my makeup that I have on! After cleansing, apply a toner to neutralize the ph of the skin. Applying a toner to the face after cleansing also reduces the appearance of pores. Step 2: Hydrate / Moisturize A face moisturizer does exactly what you think. It moisturizes. It helps keep the skin hydrated and it helps increase moisture within the cells in our face as well. Moisturizers are made of humectants (substances that attract water) and emollients ( oily substances that coat the skin and prevent moisture from leaving). Be sure to apply a moisturizer after cleansing. This will keep your face from becoming dry and it will ensure that your face stays hydrated during the day. Murad has a moisturizer called the Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisturizer and I absolutely love it! It keeps my skin moisturized all day without making it shiny and greasy. This comes in handy especially during the cold winter months.  Step 3: Protect The final step to the cleansing process is to apply an SPF sunscreen. Huh? Yes ma’am. Even if you sit inside at a desk all day, it is important that you where a sunscreen because you risk the chance of getting sun damage ANY time you are in the sun. For this last step simply apply a dime size amount of sunscreen to your fingertips and massage into your face. Be sure that you are using a SPF of 30 or higher to insure that you are getting the most sun ray protection possible . Any SPF will do, but if you want one that is not heavy and one that doesn’t make your face greasy, I recommend using the Hydrator Plus Broad Spectrum SPF 30 by PCA Skin. The sun emits 2 types of UV rays: UVA rays which are responsible for causing the skin to age, and UVB rays that cause the skin to turn red and burn. Without proper sunscreen use these rays can damage the skin and potentially cause skin damage and cancer. To eliminate your chances of getting sun damage, be sure to conclude your face cleansing by applying a SPF sunscreen. I hope this post was able to show you the importance of proper face cleaning. Our face is the first thing people look at when they see us, so it is important that we take care of it as best as we can! Thanks for tuning in, and HAPPY CLEANSING !
